About the airline

Founded in late 2002, Rwandair (www.rwandair.com) is the flag carrier airline of Rwanda. The airline operates regular scheduled flights to 18 destinations across Africa and the Middle East. Headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda, the airline is 99% owned by the Government of Rwanda. The airline recorded financial losses between 2010 and 2015, with detailed financial reporting not being made available during this period.

The airline was recently nominated for an award in the Best Airline category of the Uganda Tourism Excellence Awards, and also signed a partnership deal with EU firm Wirecard to enable passengers to book flights and pay online.

Destinations Rwandair operates regular scheduled passenger flights to Lagos, Benin’s Cotonou, Bukumbura in Burundi, Brazzavile in the Republic of the Congo, Libreville in Gabo, Accra in Ghana, Abija in the Ivory Coast, Mombasa and Nairobi in Kenya, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa, to name but a few international flight destinations. The airline has also announced plans to start offering direct flights from Kigali to Mumbai in India as of April 2017.

The airline also announced the introduction of flights from Lagos to Harare in Zimbabwe, to commence during the beginning of the second quarter of 2017.

Fleet By the beginning of 2017, the airline boasted a fleet of 9 aircraft, including models such as the Airbus A330-200, A330-300, Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 787-8 aircraft. There are, however, plans afoot to expand the fleet through the addition of more Airbus models, with the airline taking delivery of its second Airbus A330-300 during late 2017.
